SKDC’s photos and memories campaign of Wyndham Park has taken to the silver screen – with footage emerging from the park’s popular swimming and paddling pools from the 1960s.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund project has unearthed the promotional film that was screened in local cinemas during the era and can be viewed by clicking on photo below….
It features one of SKDC’s predecessors, Grantham Borough Council and the role of their then Public Health team and how they maintained the pools at the park. This included ensuring the water was clean and free from infection and educating viewers it was the authority who performed any repairs.
Referred to as ‘the corporation’ during the film, the narrator explains the role the council plays in using tax payer’s rates, or today’s council tax, to perform the function of maintaining the areas for the public.
The film is now set to be among the artefacts used in a display in Wyndham Park’s future visitor centre, due to open next year.
SKDC’s Business Manager for Venues and Facilities Paul Stokes said: “This is a tremendous find and another true piece of heritage of the park highlighting particularly how large and inviting the former pool was for residents and visitors.
“The film I am sure will have some role in the display in the new visitor centre that future park users can enjoy for years to come as they visit and make their own memories.”
