Police and Fire are investigating the arson of a bonfire ready for tonight’s Guy Fawkes night celebrations.
The organisers of the event in Bottesford Lane, Allington, have already met this morning and tonight’s fireworks event is going ahead.
A spokesman said: “The bonfire will be rebuilt – we expect to be able to obtain fresh material – several sources are being investigated.
“We welcome donations and anyone with combustible material can deliver to the bonfire site.”
The event starts at 6pm. The fire will be lit at 6.30pm and the fireworks start at 7.00pm. Entrance is £5, under 6’s are free.
Grantham firefighters were called just before midnight yesterday.
Two main jets and COBRA used to bring it under control, the fire was then left to burn out.
