Looks like BMARCo’s factory on Springfield Road. The houses on the left have the same shaped roof as Walton Gardens and the chimney could belong to the brick kiln behind Orbell’s shop. Suggest the date was a bit later 1939/40? p.s. was the factory on the left a malting house?

Looking at the shape of the roof trusses,( one short and one long side when filled with glass would maximise the suns light) only two places in Grantham had them, Marcos and Aveling Barfords.
Looking at this shot this is Marcos . Another brilliant photo.

Mandata info The short side of the roof trusses was the one which was glazed and always faced north to let light in but not the sun. As on this site. Clay for the brick kiln was taken out of the hillside to the right to form a “pit”. This pit was used to store scrapped aircraft during the war. There was also an AA gun on the top of the pit just inside Bmarco’s site. The disused brick kiln made an excellent” indoor” oval bike track. Elf n Safety!!!

Rumour had it that there was a tunnel under the hillside where Marco’s used to test the guns. When I worked nearby in the early 1970s you could hear a sound like large guns being fired on if I remember correctly Tuesday afternoons.
