Back in the 1980s, before health and safety was invented, Grantham used to stage an annual raft race on the River Witham, from the Paddock (Stonebridge Road) to Wyndham Park bridge.
Clubs, works and friends made their own vessels before taking on the mighty river and its weirs.
On a day like today it is nice to reflect on those times.
