Westmacott, Vera – Estate agents daughter was newspaper director

Vera Westmacott (1891-1974)

VERA Marguerite Westmacott was a former director and chairman of the Grantham Journal.

She was the granddaughter of Henry Escritt who had bought the newspaper in the late 1850s.

The family had lived at Whiteholme, High Street, before she was educated at Bournemouth.

She went to India with Dorothy Johnson (nee Whipple, the car dealership family) living in Madrass and Calcutta where she met her husband Philip Guise Westmacott.

In 1932 the couple moved to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Her son Christopher took over as chairman of the Journal.
