Starting today, Friday 3rd February, the car park at Londonthorpe Woods will be locked overnight from now on.
The car park will be locked at 5.30pm and rise incrementally to 9pm during the summer. It will be opened every morning at 6am.
Grantham-based Woodland Trust have put this in place due to an arson attack last weekend that burned down one of the toilet blocks and damaged the other.
A spokesman said: “We understand that this will have a big effect on some people’s usage of the site and for this we apologise.
“It’s a step we feel we need to take to protect the remaining toilets, other interpretation, infrastructure, trees, and wildlife.”
The arson attack isn’t a stand-alone incident.
There have been a number of instances where signage and trails have been damaged or stolen.
Most of these incidents are low level but they still cost the charity money to replace.
The spokesman continued: “We know it is a minority of people that are behaving poorly, and the majority of people treat the woods with great care and respect.
“Please, can you ensure that you leave the car park before 5.30pm because we really don’t want people to get locked in.”
