UKIP hopeful for Grantham seat

November 13, 2014 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

UKIP has revealed its candidate for Grantham and Stamford in next May’s General Election.

She is Marietta King, a director of a furniture making company.

Married with two children, she became  a self-employed an antique furniture restorer when he family was growing up..

She trained at the London College of Furniture in London’s east end  and  achieved City & Guilds qualifications in both cabinet making  and furniture restoration. This included design and business management.

With other directors they formed a company and brought it first to Corby then into Rutland and for many years has  been MD of the company both making and retailing quality furniture. T

Marietta_at_deskShe said: “This means doing almost any task in the company from unloading timber, working at the bench, polishing, designing, dusting, laying out the showroom, driving the van, making the tea and most importantly looking after our customers!

“However, I am now in the process of finding the best way to sell the business so that I can really concentrate on fighting next year’s General Election on behalf of Grantham & Stamford.”

Mrs King had supported UKIP for some years before actually joining 10 years ago. Within 18 months she was persuaded to put her name down for chairman of the UKIP branch of Rutland, Melton and Harborough.

She stood for UKIP in the last two General Elections for the safe Tory seat of Harborough and also  in the county council elections in Rutland.

At last year’s UKIP conference Mrs King  was honoured to be awarded a Special Medal from Nigel Farage.
