Two arrested following report of a lorry break-in

February 16, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Police have arrested two people for a variety of driving, theft and vehicle offences following quick work by Response officers in the Grantham area.

They received a report that a lorry was being broken into on the northbound A1 slip at Foston at 2.40am today (16 February).

Two pallets of champagne were reported stolen.

Officers were immediately dispatched and a white Mercedes van fled the location, and officers have then used policing tactics to stop the vehicle just south of Balderton. There was a collision between the police vehicle and the van, but thankfully nobody was reported injured.

The road was closed at the Long Bennington turn-off for a short time while officers responded to the incident, and two people were detained at 3.04am.

Further inquiries showed the van had been reported stolen from the Yorkshire area.

A 42-year-old man from the Leeds area has been arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle and theft of a motor vehicle.

A 45-year-old man – has been arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle, failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and fraudulent use of number plate.

They both remain in police custody where they will be interviewed.
