Nothing wrong with a bit of civic pride, I wonder if people will ever be as eager to clean the statue of Thatcher when it gets stuck up on a plinth, perhaps some wag may suggest throwing it in Grantham Canal along with all the other rubbish.

I think it’s great news that we are going to get a statue of Maggie. I know and understand that she is or was a ‘Marmite’ character, but she stood up for what she thought was right. She stood up to Galtiery and Argentina. She was always a Eurosceptic and ensured we got the maximum rebate and ensured we would not accept the Euro. She made a big mistake on the Pole Tax . She also stood up to powerful Unions but did not invest in communities which were devastated by Coal and Steel closures. That’s what affected Grantham, a very heavy engineering town with a strong working class ethic. She and Gorbachoff and Regan ensured the reduction of Nuclear Weapons. So overall she was a good strong leader for this country. She was also the first and only woman Prime Minister this country had ever had, and we had the respect of the world. That’s great for Grantham and for tourism. I hope would-be dissenters can be mature despite holding a different opinion.
