These Grantham youths got their kicks 30 years ago

September 21, 2017 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

GRANTHAM Youth Club caused an upset 30 years ago with a 3-0 win against Leadenham in the Under-15 Journal Cup Final.
The youth club side became the first Grantham team to win the trophy, having squeezed into the final with a penalty shootout victory over Corby Glen in the semi-final.
Leadenham were billed as the favourites, having overcome defending champions Barrowby in the previous round.
However, Dale Gilbert got the youth Club off to a flying start by opening the scoring on five minutes. Early in the second-half Grantham Youth Club moved two ahead when Gilbert supplied Dominic Redmile for the second goal of the game. With time running out, Sean Pexton grabbed a third to secure the win and the trophy.
