Tackling antisocial behaviour

Residents affected by antisocial behaviour (ASB) are being encouraged to speak out and seek the help that is available.

ASB Awareness Week is taking place between 3 – 9 July, and this year’s theme is Know Your Rights.

When someone’s quality of life is affected by the actions of other people in the community, this is antisocial behaviour. Incidents can range from something that is a mild annoyance to something that causes real fear.

Martyn Parker, chair of the Safer Lincolnshire Partnership, said: “Tackling antisocial behaviour is a priority for the Safer Lincolnshire Partnership. Local agencies have a number of tools and powers to deal with the various types of ASB, ranging from an official letter up to court action. The police have certain responsibilities, whereas your local district council will have others.

“Help is also available through the Community Trigger process (also known as the ASB Case Review). This is designed for victims of persistent antisocial behaviour, enabling them to ask their local district council to review the actions local agencies have taken to resolve their concerns.

“So, if you are a victim of antisocial behaviour, please don’t suffer in silence. You are not alone. Local authorities are here to help and will do all we can to resolve any issues you’re facing.”
