They did.. Mrs Harris had the privilage of being the first teacher (and only woman) to cane me.

I couldn’t imagine Mrs Harris caning anybody! It was good to see this photo. I left Grantham & St. Anne’s in 1961 when my dad was transferred to RAF Winldenrath, Germany from RAF Spitalgate but Mrs Harris was instantly recognisable. So too was my old class teacher Mrs Vaughan – a different kettle of fish to her predecessor Miss Armitage. Happy days at St. Anne’s!
