Small Business Saturday today

December 3, 2014 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

LOCAL retailers are joining in the spirit of this weekend’s Small Business Saturday, with the focus on a Food and Drink Fair and Christmas ‘Cake Off’ baking competition in Grantham’s George Centre on 6th December.

A retail treasure trail will also encourage shoppers into 21 town businesses, searching for the correct letter within the 21 characters of Small Business Saturday.

First prize is a £50 voucher to be spent in the retailer of their choice, donated by Grantham Business Club who will be organising a ‘Meet the Business Club’ area in the centre. Specialist business and retail advisers working with organisers South Kesteven District Council will also be present.

Festive stilt walkers will be touring the town, promoting the food and drink fair which has 17 local producer exhibitors selling speciality fair from preserves to speciality sausages, local beer and berry cordials.

Cakes entered in the Christmas ‘Cake Off’ competition will be judged at 11.30am with a panel of judges comprising MP Nick Boles, college hospitality and catering lecturer Tracie West and Julie Duff, of Church Farmhouse Cakes at Croxton Kerrial.

Cakes will be sold off at 12.30pm with proceeds donated to event charity partner Grantham Disabled Children’s Society Fund to boost takings from their own exhibit raffling Christmas hampers.

Eight special tea samplings will be available every hour at Grantham Teaspoon Tea Company, including one for Grantham Tea, and Cappucinos will be handing out free mince pies to customers.

Oscar’s new menu, enjoying its first weekend, will offer a special deal on a gourmet burger and a drink between 11am and 6pm.

Grantham College will be handing out spicy Christmas bread and students and staff will be running open sessions for youngsters on decorating Christmas cookies and making and decorating 3-D card stars.

George Centre music will be courtesy of the guitar of Nigel Truman and jazz from Swing Nouveau.
