Skydiver ragets new British record at Langar

June 9, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

A skydiver is targeting a new British record by aiming to complete 51 skydives in a day.

Dan Guest, 32 from Bristol, will make the record attempt at Skydive Langar, near Bingham, on 11th, 12th and 13th June. He will need to jump once every 11 minutes to make the attempt viable in one day and has been working extensively with the skydiving centre to put plans in place, including a dedicated landing area, spare parachutes and a portaloo!

Speaking of the record attempt, Dan said:

“It’s going to be hard work but also a lot of fun. The most jumps I’ve ever done before in one day is 17 so this is going to be quite different. With that said, I’m confident we can make it happen and have the planes and the parachutes we need.”

Dan is a multiple time national champion in skydiving and has represented Great Britain at a number of world level events. Having grown up around the sport, Dan has also been able to jump with his brother, his mum and his dad Andy – who happens to hold the current record at a total of 50 jumps in a day.

Speaking of his son’s record attempt, Andy Guest, 66 from Honiton, Devon, said:

“Daniel and I used to play in a table tennis league together. Anyone that has seen us play table tennis against each other would have seen the intense fast games we have, clearly showing the rivalry between us. So it came as little surprise to me when he told me about his record attempt!

“Personally I wish them all the very best on their epic day, and I look forward to welcoming them in joining the 50 jumps in one day club.”

Dan will be joined on the day by James Round, 42 from Milton Keynes, Elise Sharp, 33 from London, Martin Roberson, 34 from London and Mikey Lovemore, 44 from Devon. The team will be using a dedicated Cessna 206 aircraft which will operate alongside the centre’s normal skydiving programme, albeit landing in a separate area and with their own team of parachute packers.

Josh Carratt, Drop Zone Manager at Skydive Langar, said: “It’s a pleasure for us to be hosting the record attempt and we have put in place all the provisions required to give it the best chance of success. We’ve hosted a wide array of skydiving records at our airfield over the years, though this is the first attempt at the most individual jumps in a day. We’re excited to support the group and wish Dan and the others all the very best.”

The original record was set by Andy Guest in 2022 at 50 jumps, done to mark the Queen’s jubilee.

Skydive Langar is the UK’s biggest skydiving centre, offering skydiving experiences for first timers through to fully qualified hobby jumpers. Dan Guest’s skydiving team, Omni, is sponsored by Skydive Langar and has won multiple national championships, aiming to do the same again this year and also hoping for a medal position at the upcoming Skydiving World Championships in North Carolina, USA this October.
