Kirsty Davis says…
I’ve been trying to decide whether to post this but lots of health professionals and family and friends have suggested we post this.
Firstly to raise awareness but secondly to reach out to the person who did this and also to the company who clearly were not following rules to keep families safe at their event.
On Saturday 16th we attended a family light display. What should have been a lovely family evening making Christmas memories turned into our worst nightmares when a stranger accidentally spilt a scolding drink on our 6-year-old Noah.

The drink was mulled wine/cider, served far too hot with no lid and due to the sugary nature of the drink it has caused catastrophic burns to noahs chest, back, neck and right shoulder.
Noah was transfered by ambulance to a specialist burns unit where he has now had two operations and needs another at some point. He’s been in and out of hospital over Christmas, contracted an infection in his wound causing cellultisis.
He has had multiple procedures whilst he was awake causing excruciating pain and is now petrified if anyone goes near him. He will be left with life long scarring and most likely psychological damage.
This is without the trauma it has caused to us as his parents and his siblings!
I’m now writing this post as this accident could have been less severe had the drink been served at the right temperature, served with a lid and if first aid had been based at the site of the hot drinks and fire pits.

To the person who accidentally did this we know it was an accident.
Belton House, you may be Investigating this incident as it was a private vendor but procedures were not immediately changed to protect other children (ie putting lids on the scorching drinks, as I was given a drink after noah went with the medics. A scolding hot mulled cider, no lid! ). We hope to hear back from your investigation, very soon!
To other parents please please always ask for lids on any hot drink and speak to your children about being careful around others with hot drinks. Always carry water with you as this is the most important thing you can do if your child was to get burnt.
Get it under running water ASAP! The children’s burns trust have lots of useful information.
Some of you may find these pictures rather distressing but it needs to be shared, it needs to heard in order to protect other families.. Please do share this post far and wide as we must raise awareness of the damage hot drinks can cause!
