Search for missing student scaled back

January 20, 2015 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

SEARCHES for missing former Grantham King’s School pupil  Euan Coulthard  are being scaled back, but Durham Police conducting the investigation are still hopeful of finding the Durham University student alive.

Euan, 19, who is studying law at St Mary’s College, was last seen leaving Loveshack nightclub in the Walkergate area of Durham late on Wednesday, January 14.

Earlier in the evening Euan, who original comes from Bottesford, had enjoyed a meal with friends at La Spaghettata on Saddler Street before going to Loveshack.Euan Coulthard.jpg-pwrt2

Hours of CCTV footage has been studied and images of a man believed to be Euan show that on leaving Loveshack at around 11.50pm, he made his way towards Claypath and from there through the market place and down Silver Street where he crossed Framwellgate Bridge.

The footage then shows, what is believed to be Euan, a member of Belvoir Cricket Club, heading down the steps adjacent to the Bishop Langley Pub towards the river.  This is the last potential sighting of him.

Despite extensive urban and river searches carried out by police, fire crews and mountain and fell rescue, no fresh information has come to light since Euan was reported missing.

Superintendent Colin Williamson, who is leading the investigation, said: “As it currently stands, we have scaled back searches of the river and the river bank, however, we will continue with periodic searches this week as the river ebbs and flows.

“With help from our fire and mountain rescue and fell rescue colleagues, the river has been searched from 300 metres beyond Prebends Bridge back down to Finchale Abbey.

“Certain parts of the river at Chester-le-Street and Washington have also been searched.

“Despite this, there has been no change in terms of new information coming to light.

“However, we are still hopeful of finding Euan alive and we are still appealing for information, no matter how small it may seem.

“Any information that comes to us will be investigated immediately.”
