A tour of the town by Santa Claus with the help of Grantham Lions raised over £6,000.
Club president Godfrey Mackinder said this week: “It is a magnificent achievement.
“ I would like to thank all the people who have helped us with our Santa Sleigh, fellow Lions and without our friends of Lions and Chandlers Motor Group with use of a vehicle we would not have been able to take out the Sleigh.”
He dismissed as a ‘blip’ an incident where six youths pelted Santa and his party with stones as they passed along Goodliff Road.
He said: “I hope touring round Grantham and District with Santa and his Sseigh bought many smiles on faces and lots of enjoyment to the children and adults in this difficult year.
“The feedback we have had as been fantastic. People thanking us for going out with the Santa Sleigh has made their Christmas how it has put a smile on the children’s faces making them feel a whole lot better in themselves.
“So many of our other fundraising events had to be cancelled.
“I would like to thank the people of Grantham and District for supporting us and being able to achieve this in spite of the debilitating effects of the Covid 19 Pandemic.
“Thanks to you all enjoy your Christmas stay safe and well, and hope 2021 will be a lot better year.
“It has been strange this year with social distancing and restrictions. What lies ahead for all of us remains uncertain but what I can be sure of is Grantham Lions will support good causes the best we can.”
