Road collision nearly 70 years ago

April 2, 2018 by Grantham Matters 4 Comments

A TANKER carrying 3,600 gallons of petrol collided with another lorry carrying steel girders at Somerby Hill crossroads, near RAF Spitalgate in 1952.
Steel girders blocked the road for several hours. Neither driver was hurt.

I bet you wanted to be a tanker driver, thinking it was an easy life eh? Fantastic wages clean job where the load tipped itself ( fantastic is gravity) to load all you did was stick the pipe in the man hole in the top, easy life!!!!
Bit different to- day though, all H/S, all bottom loaded on API valves,, better designed tankers what’s not to like, most of, if not all fuel distribution has gone “out of house” so wages are down a bit but still a bloody good job.

You could be correct about brake failure particularly on the tanker owing to liquid surges, then old tankers didn’t have baffles in them
You not frightened, you trying to get the sympathy, not working ha ha
