The 1977 Queen’s Jubilee celebrations at Bottesford were held over the long weekend of Saturday 1st to Tuesday 4th June.
Preparations gathered pace slowly over the year. Other things were preoccuppying local attention at first – the announcement that the Vale of Belvoir coal reserves were to be mined.
However by the weekend bunting and flags had emerged all over the village. One of the main features was a procession of floats.
The 1970s had seen quite a tradition of processions develop and the Jubilee one had a substantial number of floats representing village organisations.
The Jubilee procession went around the village and finally arrived at Belvoir High School where various events took place including the fancy dress
Each child was also presented with a five-shilling piece to commemorate the event.
