A little abandoned foal on the Heath above Welbourn had apparantly been there over night and seen numerous times but no one thought to ring anyone until one of the masters of the local hunt saw the pony mid afternoon and obviously very concerned correctly called the Police..
This was an accident just waiting to happen..
This pony was yards from a very busy 60 mph road with drivers completely ignoring the police requests to slow down should it escape onto the road, hence for a while the road was closed and safety provided to those in attendance.
After more than enough rodeoing up and down the field by one of our golden winged drone officers flying around in a Volvo assisted by a young lady in her car with numerous failed attempts to capture the little fella it was eventually cornered, then rugby tackled by a local farmers daughter who just doesn’t say no to a challenge and getting a nice bruised lip in response.
Officers and the lovely volunteers who answered the call to assist, then climbed aboard to prevent it escaping again and one volunteer who had driven from near to Horncastle with a trailer arrived and unceremoniously the foal was lifted and pushed aboard.
A Police spokesman said: “We wish to thank our caller and all those who came to assist us including the huntsman of the Cranwell Blood hounds (that hunt humans). Everyone was fab.. JG you really are wonderful taking this little one on.”
Pictured is the cause of everyone’s concerns in the field it had been abandoned in and its wranglers fighting over who gets the first cuddles.. Spot the two RCAT officers in the fight.
The older member was wise enough to be on the outside of the field..
