As work begins on the new Harlaxton Road Aldi store, construction workers have also moved on to Asda car park to improve the supermarket’s home delivery service.
Permission was granted by South Kesteven District Council back in February for three new click and collect canopies to be instilled as well as five van bay canopies.
A new home shopping storage unit will also be put in place as well as a walkway canopy at the cost of 53 car parking spaces plus one disability spot. Parent and child spots are not affected.
In a design statement as part of the application, Asda revealed that “changes to the layout of the site are kept as minimal as possible.”
Outlining why the work is being done it said: “The proposal is to improve the home shopping facility by constructing a new, more convenient storage facility.
“This will consist of a new home shopping modular building, within it there will be a new frozen and chilled store.
“This will be located in the main customer car park, to the east of the store.”
The Asda Home Shopping service provides the option for their customers to shop online.
The statement said: “The home shopping storage pods are used as a storage area so groceries, which have been picked from the retail shop floor, can be collected and stored ready for dispatch.
“The goods will then be loaded onto small delivery vehicles, which will be parked under a canopy and delivered to customers within the local area during specific time slots throughout the day.”
Any new signs will require separate planning permission before they are put in place.
