I even remember when Grantham was called ” A Nice Town” !!! p.s. regards Alford Street , probable someone got a brown envelope when they heard a cycle shop was coming to Walkergate viz Watergate !!!!!
My sentiments entirely 1940ish Grantham was a nice town, a long time ago a group of people called the council got together to screw it up, my oppo won’t agree though he say “I’m been negative”

Drove through it the other day Came down Barrowby Road Ha! What a joke that has become, try getting through the town and past Gainsborough Corner while still being sane, bit of a tall order.
Grantham is now a dormitory town, I can hardly hold my excitement by the up coming 2 outlets that are going to kill off the town completely, but who give a toss, the council doesn’t. They will be busy thinking of all the car park fees they can screw out of the 3.5 million yearly visitors that they think will descend on the town to see the statue of Thatcher, that will be all they can see and all the shops will be shut.

Oh yeh! in our day definitely “bent” councillors’ among contractors etc! I could name everyone of them! …. Hey was others who tried mate! Weren’t because they was not good at what they did! There was a “Clique” out there’ & many knew & tried to beat them by being honest! Them contractors etc that long forgotten now! ploughed in loads & mysteriously failed! …………….Why? cos they could not compete with others that was on the take! ? Bit controversial, but there was an Asian’ crew that cropped up! & they wanted to look after & serve Grantham…………Oh yeah & make some £££ But not sneaky! …..They had massive backing from out of the town! & a massive want to help the Town! ……….Hey a bit counterrevolution but check out dates etc for at least 15 years! ………….Lots of them you knows dissipated’ they “chucked their cards” went bankrupt or what ever ! Certain councillors “slipped off the plate of much££££” & it changed for a while! ……………Honest? all your acquisitions now? since 2000 or so?I dunno! just reminds me of “Daily Mail” readers! …..Hey you so so close of how it was! &they was vital times as it changed Grantham aesthetically’ as well as morally! ……….Has it gone back????
