
Opening of the Lion Gates, Belton Park, in homage to the Machine Gun Corps, in 1947

THE King’s School band was at the unveiling of the Lion Gates memorial to the Machine Gun Corps, based there in the First World War.
The picture was taken on June 22, 1947, when the Band on the Lincolnshire Regiment was also playing.
According to military historian Malcolm Baxter, the unveiling was performed by Lord Brownlow.

THE picture was taken in about 1947 and swhows the Kings School OTC (Officer Training Corps) marching in Belton Belton.
In the background are the Lion Gates, leading to Belton Lane.
Among those pictured are John (in leopard skin) and Paul Reichelt.
