George Musson (1926-2014)

George Albert Musson lived in Grantham all of his life.

He married Dawn (nee Galbraith) in 1951.

His working life was spent at Neals cranes, Newmans and Aveling-Barford as an engineer, and he put all these skills into being a craftsman when he retired, when life began anew.

Mr Musson and his wife were keen ramblers. They loved gardening, theatre, poetry, golf, ballroom dancing, sailing, travelling and music.

Mr Musson is also famous for his woodwork and metalwork.

His weathervanes can be found in many countries, but his best known local one, is in Wyndham Park, commemorating World War One.

The inspiration from a war poem Dulce Et Delcrun Est by Wilfred Owen led him to design and build the weathervane on the Machine Gun Corps memorial gatehouse.

He made it in the workshop at his Highcliffe Road home, taking about four days to complete.
