A MAN was arrested at Grantham Hospital on suspicion of wearing a military uniform without permission. It happened on Wednesday, 12th November 2014 .
He was wearing full British Army uniform and trying to portray himself as a member of the Armed Forces.
The man was found to be in possession of a large amount of Royal British Legion ‘Poppy Appeal’ items and cash. We are now investigating whether this man has portrayed himself as a member of The Armed Forces to collect and receive charity payments for his own benefit.
The man does not reside in the Grantham area, he is from the north-east. We are keen to try and ascertain whether he approached anyone in Grantham on or around Wednesday 12th November collecting or selling items for the Poppy Appeal.
The arrested man is white and in his early 20’s (baby face). 5’ 6” tall, slim build, with short light brown hair. He was wearing a current multi terrain pattern combat long sleeve shirt displaying the Union Jack on the right arm and the rank of Corporal on the front epaulette, multi terrain combat trousers with green webbing belt and black Army style boots. He was also wearing a black military beret displaying the regimental cap badge of The Princess of Wales Regiment.
The suspect may have told members of the public he was a member of the Royal Signals, Territorial Army or the Army Cadets as part of his story.
