One of Grantham’s largest employers is showing its support for Pride month by flying the rainbow flag above its head office.
Totemic Group raised the rainbow flag on Friday (7 June) in recognition of its support of all LBGTQ+ employees and clients.
Lianne Firth, a Director, said: “Totemic has very strong values on diversity and the whole Group prides itself on its attitude towards inclusivity and non-discrimination.”
Employees gathered to watch the flag being raised outside Totemic House, which is home to the financial services company on Springfield Business Park. It is one of a number of initiatives the company aims to support, with fundraising events already planned for the rest of the year.
June was chosen for LGBT Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York at the end of June 1969. They saw members of the LGBTQ+ community clash with police in what’s widely known as the catalyst for the modern gay rights movement As a result, 50 years on, an increasing number of pride events are held during June to recognise the impact LGBTQ+ people have had in the world.
Lianne continued: “Our flag raising celebrates inclusivity, diversity and Totemic’s acceptance of everyone, no matter who they are. Here’s to Pride.”
