Lincolnshire NHS workers take on gruelling London challenge to raise money for charity

February 28, 2023 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Staff from two Lincolnshire NHS trusts are taking on a daunting challenge to raise money for their NHS charity.

11 volunteers from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) and Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) are hoping to complete the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 2 April to raise money for the Lincolnshire NHS Charity.

Laura Hallam

Among those taking part is Laura Hallam, a Clinical Bed Manager based at Peter Hodgkinson Centre in Lincoln.

“I became physically unwell after having my little boy in July 2022,” said the 31-year-old LPFT employee, who lives in Retford.

“I thought to myself I really need to get my act together to be a healthier person.

“A year ago I couldn’t run a mile, but I’ve slowly been building it up and when this opportunity came up, I thought I have to do this.”

Laura will be joined on the start line by Philippa Ketteringham, a Receptionist for LCHS.

The 38-year-old, who lives in Spalding, said: “In 2019, I had a miscarriage and lots of medical complications after that. It meant that I fell out of love with running as I was in a bad place mentally.

“I really wanted to do a half marathon before my 40th birthday, which is next year, so when I saw there was an opportunity to do it for the charity, I jumped at it.”

Also taking on the gruelling 13.1 mile run in the capital are Kate Sutherland, Vicky Willan, Vicki Hardy, Ronnie Wilkinson, Sarah Howarth and Claire Wheat (all LPFT) as well as Holly Wragg, Sally Darley and Gillian Parkes (all LCHS).

Each runner is aiming to raise £250 for the charity, which will fund innovative projects to enhance services and facilities.

Jessica Armstrong, NHS Lincolnshire Charity Fundraising Assistant, said: “The money raised for the charity makes a massive difference to our services and patients.

“We are incredibly grateful to all 11 of our volunteers who we know will do us proud on the day.”
