A potentially life-saving defibrillator has been installed in Queen Elizabeth Park thanks to a donation from the Grantham Lions Club.
It has been in place since earlier this month, however, a small ceremony was held yesterday (16th) to present the defibrillator to South Kesteven District Council and residents of the town.
Councillor Annie Mason, Cabinet Member for People and Safer Communities said: “Sadly cardiac arrests can happen to anyone so I hope the installation of a defibrillator in Queen Elizabeth Park will provide reassurance to those visiting.
“I would like to thank the Grantham Lions Club for their generous donation of the life-saving piece of equipment.”
The Grantham Lions Club have previously supported the installation of defibrillators in Wyndham Park and Dysart Park too.
Their Club President, Phil Marshall said: “Whilst we hope that there will be no need to use the defibrillator, this equipment can be vital in helping people to survive and recover following a medical emergency. I am delighted that we have been able to help.”
A defibrillator is used to restart the heart when someone has a cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes without defibrillation and CPR, chances of survival can decrease by around 10%.
In an emergency a 999 operator can direct the caller to their nearest defibrillator, and Queen Elizabeth Park is now part of that network.
The Grantham Lions Club support the local community by raising money for good causes. If you are interested in learning more about what a Lion does or how you can make a positive difference in your community, contact The Grantham Lions Club via email at: lionsclubgrantham@gmail.com.
