A popular pair who have been running Grantham pubs together for nearly 35 years, have decided to call it a day.
John & Linda Senior, mine hosts at the Lord Harrowby, Dudley Road, have given notice that they will not be renewing their 10-year lease when it becomes due in January.
John’s first pub was The Sir Isaac Newton (SIN) on Harlaxton Road, where he became landlord in 1982.
This was followed by a 14-year spell at the Blue Bull, Wide Westgate, where not only did he and Linda run a thriving pub, but made it a popular place to eat pub grub.
He left in 2000 and took various driving jobs including Translink, then worked for Oldershaw’s Brewery.
John said: “In 2010 Linda talked me into taking the 10-year lease at the Lord Harrowby so we took over in January 2011. It runs out in January.”
He continued to work for Oldershaws until two years ago, working behind the bar in the evenings.
He said: “I’ve enjoyed it. I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve lots of happy memories including being twice chairman of CAMRA.
“I also remember those days in the 1980s when we had the Sunday night quiz league, with teams travelling from pub to pub like the darts and dominoes teams did. They were great fun.
“But I’m 68 and I think it’s time to retire, Linda’s had enough too.”
