John Lacey leading the charge!
Yes correct Sir! can you remember the charge some 15 or 20 years earlier? it was about 10 times the amount that Mr Lacey was leading there, crazy when the Barford “Bull” sounded , mostly lead then by “Bob Shields ” in a beret & Bob must have been 6ft 11 ins with 5ft 5 legs! & from the bike shed not necessarily ¬ 1st to the shed but to Houghton Road Albert street junction he was usually first out the gate with sheer power on his huge bike, & the charge used to whizz by’ leaving an aroma of “machine cooling//lubricant” hanging in the air right down to Bridge end Road! What memories Ladies & Gents of the Mad charge from Barfords Gates!
