Jock Kerr  (B1943)

David ‘Jock’ Kerr’s  early life was spent in a Glasgow orphanage.

He began work in a nut and bolt factory in a Clyde shipyard, and over a sandwich during one lunch break he met Moira Craig, who turned out to be his sister.

He began his health service career as a 14-year-old helping pick-up patients in Glasgow before gaining his driving licence.

Jock joined the ambulance service in 1958, serving the Paisley Royal Infirmary with the Glasgow Ambulance Service.

He furthered his career in Lincolnshire Ambulance Service after coming to Grantham in 1968 and saved many lives including that of a baby girl, Emma Owen (nee Parker) at whose wedding he was a special guest.

He gave her the kiss of life in her pram and 25 years on, kissed the bride at her wedding

After his retirement from the ambulance service, Jock joined the health transport service to carry on his work in the community.

He was elected by Earlesfield voters to the district council for the Labour Party and in 2002-03 was appointed mayor.
