The Reel Cinema – formerly the Paragon – shuts it doors for the final time next week.
Conceived, built and run by Robin Sanders – no relation to Granada manager ‘Uncle’ Harry Sanders – The Paragon was the first cinema since the Granada became a bingo hall in the 1970s.
It opened with ET in 1983 and a second one was built adjacent five years later.
When Mr Sanders retired, it was taken over by Reel cinemas.
Work is now underway to replace it with a modern, purpose-built complex of cinemas and restaurants on neighbouring land, the former SKDC car park.
