This week (1 – 7 June) is Volunteers’ Week.
We will be taking the opportunity to celebrate the amazing work of our volunteers, including our Police Support Volunteers, Cadets, VPCSOs and Special Constables.
As a gesture of recognition, we are asking our communities to join us in a social media campaign to thank our volunteers for what they do.
Assistant Chief Constable Chris Davison said, “This week is a great opportunity to highlight the diverse range of tasks that our volunteers assist us with. It’s also important to recognise that the incredible work they do goes on throughout the year, day in day out.
“The last year has been a unique challenge. Some volunteers, like our Specials and VPCSOs, have supported us at an unprecedented time. Others have been asked to face the very different challenge of having to take a back seat as we closed offices and front desks to help minimise the spread of the virus.
“This has been a frustrating time for hands-on people that just want to help. We are in awe of their patience and perseverance and very grateful that they have stuck with us. They have enjoyed (or endured) our virtual substitutions for meetings that would have, in what feels like a previous lifetime, been face-to-face. It’s been difficult to get that message across just how thankful we are to have them.
“Policing is a tough world. We see things that stay with us forever. That these volunteers come into our world, for nothing more than a sense of helping our communities, is an inspiration. We are humbled by their selflessness and immensely proud of them. They make a huge contribution towards keeping Lincolnshire safe.
“I hope you will join us this week in saying thank you, in person or online, to our volunteers. They really are a godsend.”

More information about volunteers
In Lincolnshire we have hundreds of volunteers who give up their time for the force.
Our young Police Cadets learn about policing and get involved in local crime prevention initiatives, community clean-ups and charity fund raising activities.
Our Volunteer PCSOs are out on patrol supporting their colleagues by completing the same tasks as our regular PCSOs, helping to deal with local issues in their communities.
Our Police Support Volunteers help out with administrative tasks in offices; open up smaller stations to the public; keep police cars clean and tidy and many other roles.

Special Constables
Our Special Constables wear the same uniform and have all the powers of a regular Officer. They commit a minimum of sixteen hours per month on a flexible basis. What they do in those hours encompasses a very diverse range of activities from assisting with major incidents to tackling anti-social behaviour. Interested? Recruitment for Specials is currently open!
Why not join the National online taster event to get an idea of what becoming a Special Constable is all about. It’s Monday 14 June at 18.30 and you can register here.
We will be celebrating our Special Constables during Specials Weekend on the 5 and 6 June.
