Have your say on taxi licensing

March 19, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

South Kesteven District Council is updating its taxi licensing policy to ensure it remains in line with recommendations issued by the Department for Transport.

The Council’s Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle Licensing Policy sets out how it makes decisions about new licence applications and monitors those already issued.

Regular reviews ensure it reflects the latest guidance from central government, as well as recommendations from SKDC’s Licensing Committee.

The update proposals cover driver proficiency; vehicle condition checks; vehicle age limits; the introduction of a maximum fare scale; and flexible transport schemes.

Before any changes are made members of the public are being invited to have their say.

Cllr Philip Knowles, Cabinet Member for Corporate Governance and Licensing, said: “When we license drivers and operators in South Kesteven we are helping to ensure public safety and provide access to an efficient and effective public transport service.

“This is particularly the case for those people with mobility issues or for whom other forms of transport are not available, such as those in rural areas or who are out late at night. The licensing process also helps to protect the environment and keep drivers safe.

“We have reviewed our current Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle Licensing Policy to ensure that it reflects the latest directives from central government. But, before any decisions are taken about these proposed updates, the Council would like to know what you think of them. Please use this opportunity to have your say.”

The consultation closes on April 16th 2024. To take part, follow this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TLP2024
