How correct you are Amanda,
I remember it well, life continued, we got out the shovels and moved a large amount of snow, today they just want to moan and stop the trains and shut schools and tell us how bad things are. If two inches of snow falls they start bleating like demented sheep.
People just don’t have a clue nowadays
It not entirely true that life just went on. I went to Spitalgate Primary School at that time and was 10 years old. I remember that snowfall well. The school and many others in Grantham had to close down for over a week, because there was just too much snow to cope with as there was masses of it. We even built an iglu with it as it was so thick. We thought it was fanstatic and spent days up the Hills and Hollows on a sledge, It was packed with kids from all over. It was brilliant. Very happy times. The difference is that nowadays children don´t seem go out as much and don´t create their own adventures like we did. Dr Computer has changed all of that for the worst.
@Benjamin 1975 says: I totally agree with you, I was at work & it was chaotic over them few days, mainly traffic trying to get out of town, up Somerby hill, North Parade, South Parade, Harrowby and Barrowby hill! and there were a few spectacular downhill attempts! I always liked to think I could handle snowy roads, and I remember in a Colas van driving down London Road, I was roughly outside the Sports club, driving South! & for some reason & cannot remember why? did the unmentionable in them conditions? and braked quite hard and “bashed” the kerb on my nearside! I took the van back to work and it had damaged the front tyre and had to nip to Tanvic to get the steering realigned, oops! I have to say that there are some very good photos sent in, capturing them few day’s, Well done Amanda and thanks for sending in such good shots. I recognise yours to be, Brittain Drive way! or off ?? New Beacon Road, I live now in North Essex & we have had a lot of snow here, Sunday Monday! some nice photographs, GM and memories, thank you, Tony.
