Grants of £1,000 are once again now available for organisations to support numeracy development in Lincolnshire.

Employers and community groups in the county can apply to become a Lincolnshire Multiply Champion. Over the first two years of the programme, 134 Champions have been recruited.

Multiply is a government-funded programme to help adults over 19 years old to improve maths skills, which are critical to personal wellbeing and business growth.

Free, flexible courses, personal tutoring and digital training are available, with countywide tutors ready and willing to support learners. Last year 2,024 learners took part in around 450 courses in the county.

The grants are awarded on a first come, first served basis, and could be spent by employers on piloting innovative approaches to learning maths in the workplace, or dedicating staff time to encouraging numeracy progression. Community groups may come up with ways to support their wider community in taking up Multiply courses.

Thea Croxall, adult learning and skills manager at Lincolnshire County Council, said:

“A Lincolnshire Multiply Champion is an organisation or group that recognises the importance of Maths – both in the workplace and in everyday life. We’ve had two very successful years of the programme and we’re excited to see how we can get even more people involved over the next year.

“Our Champions have consistently shown great creativity to encourage and support people to achieve better numeracy skills. I’m sure that will be no different for this round of applications.”

The council is looking to award 60 grants to local businesses and community groups. Priority will be given to new applications that meet the minimum criteria; existing Multiply Champions may be able to apply at a later date.
