November 19, 2014 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

GRANTHAM’S fun packed Christmas Market Day and Christmas on the Green events are set to kick off the town’s festivities on Sunday November 30.

From 10am to 5pm there will be Christmas stalls and features at the market place and St Peter’s Hill green, culminating in the town’s Christmas lights switch on at 4.15pm.

Santa’s grotto and reindeers and a winter wonderland will be on the green with Petticoat Lane charity stalls, tree of memories, post a letter to Santa and a craft fayre will feature in the Guildhall Arts Centre ballroom.

This will be accompanied by entertainment on stage in a marquee by local musicians CJ Hatt, and Premier Cru.

Beth Cresswell Dancers, Harrowby Singers, Grantham School of Dancing, Blues Bursters, St Mary’s Choir will complete the music line up.

There will also be a short Christmas nativity played out by children from West Grantham Academy St John’s.

A fun fair, Jack Frost entertainer and hog roast, popcorn and pancakes stalls will all take place on Westgate the same day.

A Christmas tree blessing will commence at 3.15pm at the Market Cross followed by a parade lead by Oriole Jazz band, Santa and pantomime characters finishing at St Peter’s Hill green.

SKDC’s Business Manager for Venues and Facilities, Paul Stokes, said: “This year’s events are bigger than in recent years that we are sure will give residents, visitors from outside South Kesteven and local retailers an enjoyable day.

“This is a great time to buy local and support the town’s traders while enjoying the increased number of stalls on offer. We thank the Grantham Carnival and Events Group for co-ordinating this event.”

Westgate in the town will be closed to traffic from 6am to 8pm on November 30 to accommodate the market and fair.
