1952 – proclamation of Eliz II. St Peter’s Hill

Feb 8th 1952

ALD William Goodliff, Mayor of Grantham reads the proclamation of King George VI’s death in 1952 in the Market Place. In the background are old and familiar shops, now reoccupied.

The buildings are similar but ladies’ clothiers Hill and Co has long gone. The picture was taken in the Market Place at the Proclamation The King is Dead – God Save the Queen in February 1952.
