Grantham train had near-miss at crossing

December 15, 2014 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for the public’s help following a near-miss at a level crossing in Lincolnshire.

PC Darren Reilly said: “The driver of the 6.41am Nottingham to Skegness train, which stops at Grantham, was forced to apply the emergency brakes after a motorist ignored red lights at the crossing.

The incident happened at the crossing in High Ferry Lane in Sibsey, Boston, at 8.30am on Tuesday 25, November.

He said:  “The vehicle involved is described as a blue saloon-style car, possibly a Honda.

“Thankfully, nobody was injured, but I cannot overstate how dangerous the actions of this driver were.

“Not only did they put their own life at risk, they endangered the safety of everyone on the train.

“We need anyone with information about this incident to come forward. Were you at the crossing when it happened? Do you have any information about the car or the driver?”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference MSUB/B6 of 15/12/2014. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
