GRANTHAM College students and staff studying on public service courses took part in and completed a series of challenges as part of the Challenge 100 last week.
The Challenge 100 commemorates a century since the start of the First World War and gives the public service students a challenge that would stretch them physically, whilst raising money for charity.
It is also hoped they will gain a sense of the physical demands that all front line service personnel have been or might go through.
A group of 36 students and staff rowed 400 miles, ran 400 miles, biked 400 miles, took part in circuit training each doing 100 repetitions of each exercise and 600 shuttles of the sports hall, all over one week.
Chris Williams, Public Service lecturer said: “Throughout the week the students performed exceptionally well and approached each challenge with enthusiasm and determination and due to some injuries and illness many students and staff did above their quota of exercise in order for each challenge to be completed.”
It is expected over £1,000 will be raised for service charities such as BLESMA for a Christmas lunch for veterans and other service charities, as well as some towards a course expedition later in the year.
The staff and students would like to thank everyone for their support in this event without whom it would not have been the success it has.
