WORK has begun on the demolition former school buildings off Queensway.
The owners of the buildings formerly used by Priory Ruskin Academy, say they are now of no use Lincoln Diocesan Trust & Board of Finance and want to sell the land as a brownfield site for housing.
They have applied for outline planning permission for about 44 two and three bedroom houses on the 1.3ha site.
The site has been home to St Wulfram’s Secondary School since it was opened in 1956 by then Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Rev Kenneth Riches until it was renamed Grantham Church School in the 1990s and more recently the Priory Ruskin Academy sixth form.
The academy has no further use for the site and handed it back to Lincoln Diocese in August.
The Lincoln Diocesan Trust and Board of Finance says it will have no use for the site themselves and would like to sell it on at market value with the desire to cover the costs that they will incur associated with the demolition and hopefully realise some surplus capital to reinvest in other Diocesan projects.
