EAST Midlands Trains, which operates services through Grantham, have been named Passenger Operator of the Year at the National Rail Awards.
EMT, which runs trains throughout Lincolnshire and into Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, was handed the accolade in recognition of the transformation it has made during the past year.
The company faced a challenging year overseeing a major programme of station closures, but was praised for introducing a 15% discount for passengers affected by the Nottingham signalling works.
They also worked with Network Rail on a major upgrade of the Midland Mainline route.
Customers now have access to free Wi-fi, a 24-hour contact centre, free breakfasts in First Class, new trains and refurbished station facilities.
They were also highly commended in the Putting Passengers First category.
EMT managing director, David Horne “This is an incredible achievement for East Midlands Trains and I am so proud of our 2,020 staff who work so hard to deliver a great service for our customers and at the same time have helped to deliver some major improvements to our railway.
“It was great to have some of our front-line customer service, engineering and operational staff at the awards ceremony to share this moment of celebration.
“We would also like to thank our customers who have played such a huge role in our success and have given some great feedback on our services to help us improve for the future. “
