Grantham market hit by blizzard

June 16, 2019 by Grantham Matters 1 Comment

Grantham market was badly hit by a snowstorm in 1979. In the background, the pub in the corner was still called the Granby, the shop next door had no plans to become the Hogshead (later Gravity) pub while Paddy McBride still ran the fish and chip shop.
GRANTHAM market was hit by a blizzard in 1979 sending customers home early. Sharpes Seeds was still there and the Life and Health Foods shop was doing big business. On the left is Easiphit shoe shop.

Like it was yesterday. Paddy Mc Bride what a gent he was!! Moved his emporium up to the end of New Beacon Road.
Sticks in my mind that before it was a chip shop it was a cafe, coffee bar in the Market Place, time plays tricks on the mind.
    Is Paddy Still with us?
