Bookings at a leading Grantham hotel have been cancelled to allow refugees to take over the room.
Staff at the Urban Hotel, Swingbridge Road, were told on Friday that the management has agreed to allow its rooms to be occupied by fleeing Afghans. The hotel says all 89 rooms will be taken up.
Several people in Grantham have had their wedding receptions, Christmas parties and other events within the next six months at the hotel are cancelled
A spokesman for the Urban said the new guests are Afghans who have worked with the British forces together with their families.
The spokesman said they had tried to find alternative venues for couples due to get married, although it had not been possible to find somewhere for all of them as there were few venues in Grantham large enough.
Slimming World with Rhona Grantham & Bottesford posted on Facebook saying: “After a very stressful weekend searching out a new venue for our Thursday group, following the sudden Government acquisition of the Urban Hotel I am delighted to announce our new home from this Thursday, September 6 is Grantham Squash & Fitness, Harlaxton Road.”
