An enterprising mature student at Grantham College has taken steps to support his most vulnerable neighbours during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Tim Turner made sure that his elderly and vulnerable neighbours were able to access fresh supplies when the local Farm Shop decided to close its doors to customers as a result of social distancing measures.
Tim decided to volunteer as an intermediary to the Farm Shop, supporting his community by co-ordinating orders from locals and liaising with the shop to order direct from suppliers. Tim then accepted weekly deliveries direct to his home in the village, sorted out supplies into the orders and arranged for collection or delivered directly to people who were self-isolating. The enterprise had lovingly been adopted as the “Farmer’s Market” by villagers and likened to the BBC TV show “Open All Hours”.
The Farm Shop has now reopened to customers, but Tim continues to support those who are most vulnerable with collecting and delivering supplies to their doorstep.
After 30 years working as an architect, Tim has decided to follow his passion for cooking, retraining on our Level 1 Professional Cookery as part of our Skills Support for the Unemployed programme, which is co-financed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and European Social Fund.
