Residents at Maple Leaf Lodge on Beacon Lane in Grantham have been discovering all things
Antipodean in celebration of Australia Day, which took place on Friday 26 January.
Residents took part in Australian-themed activities throughout the day including a
virtual trip down under including a tour of Sydney Opera House, Sydney harbour,
Ayres Rock and Bondi beach, which everyone really enjoyed. The favourite activity
of the day was however our very own bush tucker trial, where staff went head to
head, eating a variety of disgusting foods. Staff members had to eat mealworms, fish
eggs, kangaroo phlegm, a century egg and so much more.
Courtney, Activity Coordinator at Maple Leaf Lodge said: “We’ve all had a brilliant
day learning about all the wonderful things to see and do down under. The best part
of the day was watching the staff eat the different foods. It’s great that we can create
our own version of the hit TV show for all to enjoy.”
Ron, a resident at Maple Leaf Lodge commented: “I’m glad it was the staff eating
those foods because you would never catch me eating it.”
