Former Kesteven & Grantham Girls’ School Head Girl & BBC Look North/BBC Radio Lincolnshire reporter Jess Lord completed the TCS 2024 London Marathon last weekend.
It was Jess’ (27), first marathon, having only started running less than three years ago – using the NHS Couch to 5K app.
For someone who’d never run before 2021, and hadn’t engaged with sport growing up – it was a monumental achievement.
Four weeks before the marathon she picked up a knee injury and was unsure if she’d be able to complete the 26.2 mile course. But she managed it! It took her six hours and fourty three minutes to cross the finish line, and she was supported throughout by family (proud parents David & Pippa and brother Gareth), friends from school (Rachel, Emily), university (Lucy, Abi, Rhys) & work (Charlie, Hannah, George, Charlotte, Alex & Hope). Some of her friends came from as far as Poole to cheer her on!
Raising money for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, she hit her £2,000 target – but more donations would of course be very welcome, and may help to heal those blisters a little faster!
