SKDC Cllr Annie Mason is backing Grantham Foodbank with a Ward Member Grant donation of £500.
She has also handed a further £500 to the Grantham Winter Night Shelter for the homeless, a project run by the town’s churches.
Cllr Mason said: “The churches in Grantham got together to provide a safe shelter for our homeless during the months of January and February and have been organising fund raising towards creating a permanent shelter for our less fortunate residents. We also held a sleep-out in the grounds of Grantham House in December which raised around £9,000.”
Grantham Foodbank provides emergency food parcels to people in need who have been identified by the frontline professional agencies. The parcels are put together to meet the specific needs of families and individuals.
Cllr Mason added: “Each parcel, which is designed to last three days for a family of up to five people, is nutritionally balanced, which is especially important where there are children involved.”
Foodbank co-ordinator Brian Hanbury said: “During cold weather there’s often a choice between heat and food and our work, with the help of generous donations like this, can help ease that burden.
