Cllr Tim Harrison says..
I have known George all my life, as, most probably, does every Granthamian.
George sadly just passed away.
Never again will we see his familiar flat cap and stooped stance or hear his familiar hails of ‘Alright Boy’ or ‘Nowt do wi’ you’.
George was a permanent fixture in Morrison’s centre where he could regularly be seen collecting trollies. Latterly George lived at Riverside and was a familiar figure sat or stood on the corner.
Many pipped and waved as they passed him. George was probably unique in that I don’t know of anyone who didn’t like him. He was the epitome of #granthamtogether .
So rather than mourn George I would love to celebrate his life and remind future generations of this genial giant. A guy who united us all. I would love to raise enough funds to get a commemorative statue or bust of him that would be displayed prominently in the town.
Hopefully Morrison’s centre under the clock. Help me raise the money ❤️ by clicking link below…
