Four boys from Grantham’s King’s School represented the East Midlands team at the U14s Inter-Regional Water Polo Championships last weekend.  Hosted in the West Midlands, at Walsall Gala Baths, Thomas Perks, Sam Leveridge, Kaelin Smith and George Stephenson joined fellow East Midland team mates in a fierce battle against the toughest selection across the country.

Twelve regional teams were competing in the two day event which saw the East Midlands beat Wales 4:2 and the East 10:1, before a close battle with Ireland losing 4:6, and a hard fought game against overall winners, North West Tigers. Despite being equal at half-time, they were put under pressure and had some challenges in the second half, leading to defeat. Their final game against Scotland left them winning at half time, until a tough final few minutes where they lost 8:9.

East Midlands U14 Manager, Debbie Blaze, said “All the boys supported each other and played as a team.  They certainly made their presence known.” Head coach, Joe Leveridge and assistant coach Jon Lane, praised the boys determination and commitment to the sport adding that a final score does not reflect how well the boys played together and how impressed they were with their over-all performance over a very long weekend against some of the best players in the country.
